Kerala, fondly known as 'God's Own Country', is a paradise for food lovers. The state's culinary delights strike the perfect blend of spices, aromatic herbs, and fresh coconut. From the crispy Kerala porotta to the lip-smacking fish curry - the flavour and texture are simply unparalleled. Recently, celebrity chef Sarah Todd embarked on a culinary journey in the coastal destination, and it's giving us serious travel envy. After looking at the glimpses, we can't wait to go and indulge in these mouth-watering dishes ourselves.
Her adventure kicked off with a classic Kerala treat - undampori, crispy banana fritters paired with a steaming cup of tea. They are prepared by deep-frying a batter of ripe bananas, rice flour, jaggery, and a touch of cardamom. Taking her first bite, Sarah was left impressed. She revealed that the snack was crispy on the outside while fluffy on the inside with a hint of spice. In her side note, she wrote, "I had undampori and chai for breakfast, and the local chai wala at Shamsikka's Tea Shop was kind enough to teach me how to pull chai. Let's say... I need a LOT of practice. First attempt? I lost about 30 ml of my precious chai, but hey, we've got to start somewhere, right?" Take a look:

Next, Sarah Todd shifted her attention to another popular snack - Pazham pori. She captioned, "Those golden, ripe plantain fritters that Kerala just gets. Made with nenthrapazham, a super-ripe plantain variety unique to the region, they are soft, sweet, and lightly crispy. The kind of snack that makes you stop, savour, and smile." Sarah added that Pazham pori can be found aplenty in the streets of Kochi.
Sarah Todd also treated her tastebuds to Kerala's puttu and kadala curry. “Puttu with kadala curry is the ultimate comfort dish - soft, fluffy layers of steamed rice flour and coconut paired with a bold, spiced kala chana curry. Every bite is a hug from God's Own Country,” she wrote in the caption.
Sarah Todd wrapped up her food trail with stew and appam. “Creamy, subtly spiced stew paired with soft, lacy appam, it's comfort food at its finest,” she admitted in the caption.
